COMPOSER
After writing music my entire life from sound and emotion influence, these are my first video projects. Working from images is awesome! I scored the following videos for artist Petrina Sharp at http://PJmurals.com The newest videos are first in the list.
Cabinet Redos
This cabinet was near the kitchen but not in the kitchen we wanted to tie it in with both the living room and the kitchen so we chose a color and Faux technique that would work with both rooms and give it a new makeover without losing the pretty, natural wood grain.

African Sunset Mural
PJMurals.com shows this video of an African Sunset in progress painting. From beginning to end in less than two minutes. Created for boys room, with the idea of being there for a while so planned to make it more grown up but also appeal to the child. The child picked all elements of the painting, artist just put the boy’s wishes on the wall. Please see PJMurals. com for more art work. Petrina JM Sharp Fine Artist.
Kitchen Makeover with Faux Finish paint
This video influenced some, what I call, “Classical / Folk” melodies: guitar, cello, bass, violin, flute, oboe and clarinet. The process of seeing images and getting melodies to go along with, always fascinates me. (Real different flow than writing rock-fusion tunes!)
Shabby Chic Mural in a Child’s Bedroom
This video called for some light, classical piano music. Little girl’s room custom mural, in a style she can grow up with. Birds, Bees bugs and flowers. http://PJMurals.com (Shabby Chic: is a form of interior design where furniture and furnishings are either chosen for their age and signs of wear and tear or new items are distressed to achieve the appearance of an antique.)
Kitchen Cabinets Transparent Painting
The client’s ethinicities are Sri Lankan and Hawaiian, so I created some East Indian-ish music to go along with the slides.
“Personalizing a Child’s bedroom”
The artist wanted something “light and fluffy,” so I chose classical guitar, flute, violin and cello, with a smattering of clarinet and oboe at the end to match video characters. “Check out how this child’s bedroom has been transformed into something enchanting and delightful for a young girl to enjoy while growing up.” The mural artist, Petrina Sharp, can be reached at http://PJmurals.com.
LIVE MUSIC
In 2005 my brother, Ed Buttwinick, retired from his school, the “Brentwood Art Center.” I put this trio together to play for the “passing of the brush” event. Ed founded the school in 1970 with his wife, Linda Buttwinick.
The musicians are: Tom Mendola on drums, Marty Rosen on keyboard and me on bass. It was an awesome day!
BIG BAND
The SRO Big Band at the L.A. Open Awards Dinner, Century Plaza Hotel, opening for Ray Charles circa 1983. (We would have liked to take another cut of this… but live is live!)
Christmas Stories
A fun gig I played on the 4th and 5th of December. You can’t see the band, but you can hear it.
Hollywood talent came out over the weekend for the Christmas Stories XVII event that was put on by The Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre. Celebs performed skits and told Christmas stories to benefit the Hollywood Police Activities League’s annual Christmas party for underprivileged children and their inner city programs for at-risk youth.
Other stars to help out with the cause included Anne Archer, Erika Christensen, Jason Dohring, MC Lyte, Beth Riesgraf and film composer Mark Isham. Minka Kelly was a special guest performer in addition to Amy Davidson (“8 Simple Rules…for Dating My Teenage Daughter”), Esteban Powell (“The Cleaner”) and Aldis Hodge (“Leverage”).
Over the years, the annual event has raised more than $245,000 in proceeds for the community programs.

Hey Marty,
Consider becoming a part of http://www.musiclessons.com. It’s perfect for working musicians like yourself who have an internet presence. If you have any music lesson videos to share, you should find them on the site and then tag them as your lessons. There will also be other opportunities for musicians to share their knowledge. If you have any questions, send me an email… I’m a developer for the site (and a musician). Cheers… JP
